The Pale Blue Dot

Type setting

Conceptual archive project focused around Carl Sagan's 'Pale Blue Dot' speech.

Semester long archival project. The goal was to work off of Carl Sagan's Pale Blue Dot speech at the end of his show 'Cosmos'. This project was very conceptual. The direction I decided to go with and focus on one part of the speech.

"Our posturings, our imagined self-importance, the delusion that we have some privileged position in the Universe are challenged by this point of light. Our planet is a lonely speck in the great enveloping cosmic dark, in our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves."

To illustrate this point, I created a chain of paper with nature print on it. Each link contains a image of something that humans do to harm the planet, and something that humans do to counteract that action on the opposite side. The Chain is contained in a cosmic box with the quote printed on the lid.
